EVENTO
CFD in Brain Aneurysms at GMU
Tipo de evento: Seminário LNCC
In this presentation I will summarize current research efforts in the study of cerebral aneurysms at the Center for Computational Fluid Dynamics, George Mason University (Virginia, USA) . Our research is conducted in close collaboration with Neuroradiologists from Inova Fairfax Hospital in Virginia, and therefore is driven by clinically important questions and applications. In particular, we focus on: 1) the role of hemodynamics in the mechanisms responsible for the formation and evolution of intracranial aneurysms (basic science), 2) identifying hemodynamic markers that could be used to improve current risk assessment (patient evaluation), 3) investigating the effects of endovascular devices on the intra-aneurysmal flow patterns and their relationship to the outcome of endovascular interventions (treatment planning), and 4) studying the hemodynamic performance of different endovascular devices (device design). Our research strategy consists in the development, validation, and application of methods for image-based computational modeling of cerebral arteries and aneurysms in order to connect patient-specific hemodynamics information to clinical events and observations and answer specific clinical questions through statistical analyses. This approach has proven valuable to generate new knowledge in the field of brain aneurysms which we hope will result in improvements of patient care.
